New York City isn’t necessarily the most golf-friendly city around, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find some good spots to get some swings in! Whether you’re a seasoned player, or a first-time golfer, there are plenty of courses, pitch and putts, and indoor courses where you can play and practice. Since we already ranked our best mini golf courses in NYC, we had to round up our favorite full-size courses too. Here are our favorite spots to both play and practice golf in NYC!

If you’re more of a first-time golfer, or just prefer a more casual session, Golf Club at Chelsea Piers has a club waiting for you. The New York City landmark is both a driving range as well as a golf teaching academy, making it the perfect golf experience. Although their is no full size-course here, both options are still perfect for improving your game. Perfect your swing with their driving range practice sessions or take on a personalized learning opportunity with their private or semi-private lessons. When you’re ready to show off what you’ve learned, take your shot at their Full Swing simulators to see how far your ball can fly.

Golf paired with a sports bar might not be the most conventional match, but Five Iron Golf makes it fun and friendly for all! With multiple golf simulators alongside lessons taught by in-house pro Mike Doyle, Five Iron is perfect for everyone. In fact, Five Iron is proud to have shifted Manhattan’s golf culture from one aimed solely at professionals to one that anyone that’s interested in trying. Proudly operating in 3 different locations across Manhattan, Five Iron is a re-imagined, high-tech, and inclusive urban golf space that is top-notch and impressive. Our favorite thing to do though is grab of group of friends and challenge them to some putting games. You can rent space and areas for group events that make for a fun time!

Another one of our favorite golf courses in NYC is Dyker Beach Golf Course. Tucked in a quiet southwest corner of Brooklyn, this course is one of the best spots in the city to forget you’re still in the city at all. Found below the Verrazano Bridge and beside the Atlantic, the 6,438-yard green space makes a round of golf meditative. The course is a classic par 72, made even more nostalgic by the fact its original design dates back to 1897, with its more modern rendition credited to 1935. Plus, they have a fully renovated event space ready to welcome whatever kind of gathering you’re having. Dyker Beach is more than a course – it’s home to New York history! They also have two catering halls, a bar and grill, and more!

Another Brooklyn gem we love, regardless of skill level is Brooklyn Greens. With lush decor to match its name, Brooklyn Greens makes a round of golf as effortless as a stroll in Central Park. For anyone hoping to make golf a family sport, this is a great spot to start young golfers, thanks to their fantastic youth instructional programs. There are morning sessions for kids from two to five years old, and afternoon sessions for 6 to 12-year-olds, proving no one’s too young to learn the great game of golf. While the kids are busy, you yourself can improve your game with virtual golf, putting greens, golf instruction, leagues, and tournaments. Brooklyn Greens even has a full-service bar and grill – letting you snack and swing to your heart’s content anytime.

Even with the wind, the course itself is designed to ensure conditions stay stable, promising smooth swings from start to finish. Though it’s not technically in NYC, Skyway has still been continually ranked as one of the best golf courses around the city. Skyway can even customize a golf experience for you, including prize packages, merchandising upgrades, and food and beverage options to keep you refreshed all round (or two) long.

Van Cortlandt Golf Course is not only America’s oldest public golf course, but it’s one of our favorite spots to escape to the greens without having to leave the city. This course has quite the history and has hosted rounds to tons of famous people throughout the years including Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Joe Lewis and the Three Stooges (yes, that’s how old this course is). Despite its age, the facilities are pristine thanks to their new management. They’ve added seven new greens, new tee boxes, additional cart paths, improved bunkers, and dramatically improved drainage, making it one of the nicer courses in the Bronx. A round starts at $30 and goes up from there. Be sure to check it before summer’s end!

8. Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point

If you’re seeking one of the best golf courses in NYC, Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point is one of the most picturesque courses for your next round. Described as equal parts gorgeous and challenging, the green landscapes will let your mind relax, but keep you on your toes with each shot. Between the high grasses presenting a unique obstacle, accompanied with views of the Whitestone and Throggs Neck Bridges, every hole here is an adventure. One of the best parts of the course is that Downtown Manhattan stays in your sight while you play; letting you admire the city from afar. Afterwards, you can visit the new clubhouse that is state-of-the-art.

9. Forest Park Golf Course

Forest Park Golf Course is another historical public NYC golf course that dates back to the 1890s. Located in Woodhaven in Queens, this 6,000+ yard course is a great spot for everyone, and it’s super affordable! A round starts at just $35 for 18 holes. Key features of the course include tree-lined fairways, elevated greens, and three water holes, making it tricky yet exciting all at once!

10. Douglaston Golf Course

Last but not least on our list is Douglaston Golf Course, a former country club turned public course (back in the ’60s). The course itself is located at the highest point in Queens, making it the perfect place to get a Northern view of Manhattan! Rates start at only $21 for an early bird, 9 hole special, and increase in price from there. They have a lovely refurbished clubhouse and catering area as well that offers food and beverages before or after your round. The course is open from around 6 am – 6 pm!
